Measurement
We have been learning all about measurement in Second Grade. We've talked about using inches and centimeters for shorter objects, using a tape measure to measure around an object, as well as using miles and kilometers for longer distances. We've also talked about capacity and weight as units of measurement. This is a very hands on unit and the students have had a great time measuring everything in site! We've used some great games to reinforce our math lessons!

The Iditarod Dog Sled Race
We have been learning all about the Alaskan Iditarod race, which is a sled dog race where the racers travel over 900 miles! The students have had A LOT of fun with this! The race route is hung in the hallway outside our classroom. We have followed 8 different mushers throughout the race and Dallas Seavey was the first musher to cross the finish line early this morning!! We have really enjoyed following the route and learning the rules of this difficult race! We have also talked about the real reason this race was started, which was to commemorate the serum run from Anchorage to Nome in the winter if 1925. We will start to learn about Alaska and how living in Alaska is similar yet different from living in Vermont.
